Improve Your Golf Game with Yoga
with Kathleen Kelly-Hoffman
Regardless of your age, physical challenges, or flexibility, Yoga offers the tools to begin,
maintain and increase your physical well being, allowing you to achieve results on and off the golf
course. Yoga allows you to enhance your golf performance for both body and mind. The practice of yoga
incorporates flexibility, strength, balance, core conditioning, and breathing awareness, teaching focus,
relaxation and visualization techniques. The postures presented in this yoga program are picked to
meet the needs of the golfer. Relaxation techniques are used to quiet the overactive mind and teach
visualization tools, essential for golf performance.
Golf is generally viewed as a game of technical skill rather than an athletic event, requiring less
exertion than most other sports. Unfortunately, this common misperception all too often results in
injury and/or premature performance plateaus. The reason is very simple: golf is a highly athletic
event! Recurring pain in the back, shoulders, knee, wrist, and elbow is much too common among
golfers. By following a carefully designed yoga program for golfers, the risk of injury can be reduced.
Additionally, a golfer already suffering from an injury will have much greater success returning to
the game if his/her program addresses the underlying cause to the problem.
